As We Have Grown -
- Where we started in 1931, How we have evoled, up to Now, 75 years later. -

Taken from remeberences and letters from Rev. Gene Sande, Patricia Levitt and Ester Floden, Rev. Patricia Talis and records and letters from Our Ministers, as well as those who have guided the center in various volunteer roles.
We began as the Rosicrucian Philosophy Study Center 1133 3rd Street, Santa Monica California, in the home of Mary Elizabeth Shaw a student and probationer of the Rosicrucian Fellowship, Oceanside, California. The centers dedication ceremony was held June 21, 1931 at 11 am, the Summer Solstice. The ceremony contained a decree that: We would teach the gospel, heal the sick, and be a friend (love one another), according to the simple admonition of the Christ".
The name taken for the center was the Rosicrucian Philosophy Study Center and it was dedicated by Mr. William Arbert, a Rosicrucian student from of San Diego. Our bylaws were set in accordance with spiritual laws, and in accordance with the bylaws concerning study groups and study centers from the Rosicrucian Headquarters in Oceanside California. All activities were conducted upon a free will basis, and all gifts were to be anonymous.
The curriculum was based largely upon that of Oceanside, with certain instruction that had been given to Mr. Max Heindel from the elder brothers of the Rosicrucian teachings. In the beginning our center became the hub of spiritual unity as students and teachers from other teachings gathered to attend Mrs. Shaw's classes. Soon these teachers wanted to share their knowledge with students who came to the center. Once the Rosicrucian Philosophy courses were complete, Mrs. Shaw incorporated these good teachers from Theosophy and other related sources of Truth, and their classes into the center, in order to provide the students with a broad basis of understanding.
Classes included the Cosmo Conception, our main text book, as well as The Bible, Astrology, Numerology, the Tarot, Kaballa, Meditation, Color and Sound Therapy and Healing. Correspondence courses were also offered in the Philosophy and Bible, as these topics were of great interest because of the war and many people who did not live near the center. People living too far away, who could not attend classes, showed interest in what we were teaching and began to contact our center for our teachings.
Sunday Morning Services began as those that were held in Oceanside, but soon were conducted on an open platform basis, because of the Aquarian focus of our center from the very beginning, uniting the head with the heart. The heart soon indicated all religions led to opening that divine inner instrument, where the Divine resides within all of mankind. As a pioneer of the dawning of the Aquarian age, Mrs. Shaw was aware there would be one day one religion, the religion of love and one race, the race of humanity. She felt that an open podium would invite all to come and learn and become knowledgeable about our philosophy, which would help develop the mental aspect of all who came. And so, though we have an open podium, our teachings are still based upon the Rosicrucian teachings.
In letters, to Corinne Heline, shared by Rev. Sande, Mr. Heindel reflected that the teachings that they would receive from their own "inner" teacher, and eventually share through books and classes, would open up humanity to even greater insights, than he himself had shared with them. Mr. Heindel also indicated greater teachers would come forth to both Corinne Heline and Manly Hall, as well as their students, because of what he himself had experienced in his own earthly journey.
Mrs. Shaw wrote to a student: . "As the Aquarian age would one day be upon us, it would be vital as well as valuable to give forth to humanity this information, (the esoteric teachings of the Bible and Philosophy) that would hold value for them and call forth their own inner abilities and insights. She said that as they changed, and began to grow, and flourish, then this esoteric wisdom would be lived or made manifest on earth.
From the very beginning Mrs. Shaw had the ability to gather around her people with keen intellects, who were also sincerely dedicated teachers. Vandah Olcott Bickford,came from the College of Astrology in Los Angeles. Vandah Olcott Bickford, was the niece of Henry Olcott, contemporary author and co-worker in the beginning with H.P. Blavatsky. As a child Vandah knew the early workers in Theosophy. Earnest Wood, who had been Krishnamurdi's teacher was often a speaker in the early days as were Geoffrey Hodson and Paul Foster Case.
It was in 1934, not long after our beginnings, that Articles of incorporation were drawn by Mary Elizabeth Shaw, Eleanor Jenkins and Frances Holliday, for us to exist as a study group separate from the dictates of the Rosicrucian Fellowship. We were The Rosicrucian Philosophy Study Center and aside from Perpetuating the Rosicrucian teachings, our intent was to be the first foundation to act as both church and school of esoteric teachings ushering in the Aquarian age and all encompassing the Religion of Love.
Today we still offer classes in the Rosicrucian Philosophy Cosmo Conception as well as the Bible and Astrology. The center has become of a distribution center for the Corinne Heline books,as well as a social gathering place where their individual ideas are shared and outside lecturers come to share their own personal philosophies, more than a center where our teachings are discussed and disseminated.
Our books are world wide now, ever there to help the student go forward as the responsibility of enlightenment is always an individual alchemical process. As a darkened room gives way to the light of a single candle, so does fear give way to love, so does co-dependence and the outer world destractions give way to the unfoldment of the healer within. Today everyone has a story to tell or a book to sell. To reclaim your Mastery is one thing, to live it is another. Only when the time is ripe will one discover no magic is needed, no teacher or preacher, the process is an inner one. The Corinne Heline books are texts the serious student's quest to "know thy self, the alchemy that must occur before the Aquarian Age.
Max Heindel provided a philosophy of everyone's evolvement through the ages that points to the order of the cosmos and Mrs. Heline provided a text book, the New Age Bible Interpretation, not just a religious view point but as a story for all peoples evolvement as we move into the Aquarian age.
